IL LABIRINTO DI PORSENNA-THE LABIRINTH OF PORSENNA
Il Labirinto di Porsenna è costituito da una serie di cunicoli sotterranei ed è situato sotto la città di Chiusi, in provincia di Siena.
Il labirinto fu descritto per la prima volta da Plinio il Vecchio nella sua Naturalis Historia: secondo lui custodiva il Re etrusco Lars Porsenna e il suo tesoro.
In realtà fu costruito come sistema idraulico per garantire l’approvvigionamento idrico della città e fu scavato nell’arena risa fino ad una profondità di 25 metri.
Il percorso inizia dal Mausoleo della Cattedrale e si conclude con una cisterna etrusco-romana del I secolo avanti Cristo.

The Labyrinth of Porsenna consists of a series of underground tunnels and it is located in the city of Chiusi, in the province of Siena.
The labirinth was described for the first time by Pliny the Elder in his Naturalis Historia: according to him the Etruscan king Lars Porsenna and his treasure were buried here.
In fact it was built as a hydraulic system to ensure the water supply of the city and it was excavated in the sandstone till a depth of 25 meters.
The route starts from the Cathedral Museum and ends with an Etruscan-Roman cistern of the first century BC.

LE FONTI DELLE MONACHE-SIENA. THE SOURCES OF THE NUNS
Le FONTI DELLE MONACHE si trovano in Via delle Sperandie a SIENA, nei pressi della cinta muraria che circonda la città. Il nome deriva dai due monasteri che si trovano nelle vicinanze. La fonte è alimentata da un bottino lungo 25 metri e presenta tre entrate, di cui una era riservata alle monache di clausura. Il complesso è formato da una vasca grande che serviva da lavatoio.Le visite sono aperte al pubblico in alcuni periodi dell’anno contattando L'”Associazione la Diana”, responsabile della ristrutturazione.

The Sources of the Nuns are situated in “Via delle Sperandie” at Siena, near the city walls.The name is due to the two convents situated near the sources.A booty long 25 meters fed the sources which have three different entrances, one reserved to the cloistered nuns. The complex is made of a big tank used like a wash house. The sources are opened to the public during certain periods of the year.Please contact “Associazione la Diana” for the visit.

“PIEVE DI SAN GIOVANNI BATTISTA”- SOVICILLE,SIENA
The “Pieve di San Giovanni Battista” at Ponte allo Spino is situated near Sovicille, Siena.
The church was probably built during the second half of 11th century for the countess of Tuscany, Matilde of Canossa.
The church has a a four plan of three naves with semicircular apses. The façade has a portal and a large lancet window with beautiful bad-riliefs.There is also a big bell tower in Lombard style probably built before the church that was built over the ruins of an ancient Roman villa.

La “Pieve di San Giovanni Battista” a Ponte allo Spino è situata vicino Sovicille, Siena.
La chiesa fu probabilmente costruita durante la seconda metà dell’ undicesimo secolo per volere della Contessa di Toscana, Marilde di Canossa.
La chiesa possiede un impianto a tre navate con absidi semicircolari. La facciata è caratterizzata da un portale e da una monofora con bellissimi bassorilievi. C’è anche una grande torre campanaria in stile lombardo forse costruita prima della chiesa che fu probabilmente costruita sulle rovine di un’antica villa romana.

Yesterday and today ( 7 th and 8th March) SIENA WINE FESTIVAL: inside the wonderful ” Cortile del Podestà” of the town hall of Siena, about 40 different excellent wines should be tasted while admiring the beauty of this place. The courtyard of the major (“Cortile del Podestà) is the place where the horses await the beginning of the famous senese horse race: the Palio.

Ieri e oggi (7 e 8 Marzo) SIENA WINE FESTIVAL: nel Cortile del Podestà del Palazzo Comunale di Siena sarà possibile degustare ben 40 eccellenti vini diversi ammirando la bellezza del posto.Il Cortile del Podestà è il luogo dove i cavalli attendono l’inizio della famosa corsa di Siena: il Palio.

THE MAJESTY BY DUCCIO DI BUONINSEGNA-LA MAESTA DI DUCCIO DI BUONINSEGNA
DUCCIO DI BUONINSEGNA was a senese painter of the XIV century.He became famous thanks to to his masterpiece called “The Majesty”, today placed in OPA museum of Siena.
Probably “The Majesty” was painted by Duccio between 1308 and 1311 and was carried in procession inside the Duomo, the cathedral of Siena and placed behind the main altar.
Unfortunately some parts of “The Majesty” were lost and some are in foreign museums.

Duccio di Buoninsegna è un pittore senese degli inizi del XIV secolo divenuto famoso soprattutto per la sua prima opera “La Maestà”, oggi custodita al museo dell’OPA di Siena.
“La Maestà” fu probabilmente dipinta tra il 1308 e il 1311 e fu portata in processione al Duomo di Siena e posta dietro l’altare maggiore.
Purtroppo alcuni pannelli della tavola sono andati perduti e altri sono custoditi nei musei all’estero.
